New Fathers

I think all parents feel the same when they see their first born, for the very first time.
With love over flowing they know what they mean when they say love is blind.
Their hearts fill with love and their eyes shine with pride as they pear at their first darling child
The feelings they feel, they're the first of there kind and you know those feelings aren't mild.
But when it comes to the holding, the very first holding of this newly born life and great gift
Moms and Dads are different, they just aren't the same and there's no way to hurdle that rift
I think Moms are bred to the task, its part of their being, it comes from some where inside
After all, they've carried this child, with them each day and held them in safety and pride
They simply shift them two feet, two little feet from their womb up into their arms
They hold them with such love and hold them so dearly up to their bosom safe from harm
But Dads, oh boy Dads Well Dads just aren't sure what to should do
We spent all that time taking care of our wives and now there's a baby here too.
Filled with excitement and fear a true nail biting time they pass our little child to us
and we tentatively take him into our arms not sure what to do and feeling a bit foolish
What if we hold them to tight, we might crush them or hurt them or make something go pop
But to loose is no good they might roll, or might slip and hurtle to the floor with a plop
Meanwhile nurses are yelling cradle their head, you have to hold it up for them
So you swaddle them close in a weird two handed grip not sure if it's right or deploring
But as you look down at that face looking back up at you, it sends your heart to just soaring
And the feeling you get as you hold your child for a bit is better than all of God's glory
Don't worry dear Dads each time that you hold them the awkward feeling it gets better
You'll soon be on to more challenging things, like when their diaper and your shirt have got wetter
